The Essex-based contractor beat Ringway, VolkerHighways, M Group Highways and Costain to secure the seven-year contract, which starts in October and can be extended by a further three years.
West Berkshire spends more than £15m a year on highway maintenance, covering reactive and planned works, winter maintenance and asset management, alongside a capital programme of road improvements, safety schemes and active travel projects.
The contract has an initial value of £150m but could potentially double to £300m if planned local government reorganisation across Berkshire and Oxfordshire expands the council’s responsibilities.
Under the deal, Marlborough Highways will deliver the council’s statutory highway authority functions and maintain roads and transport assets across the borough.
The award marks another significant local authority win for the contractor, which secured the contract despite competing against some of the biggest names in the highways maintenance market.
The contract is due to run from 1 October 2026 until September 2033, with an option to extend until 2036.
Last April Marlborough secured a £200m, 7-year deal with Southend City Council and two months before that a deal to deliver highways maintenance for London’s Newham Council worth £150m over four years.
